The Tech Scene in KC is Burning Red, Red Hot

By September 15, 2015General

It’s no coincidence that Make48 was founded in Kansas City. The Inventors Center of Kansas City is among the most active and tech-savvy in the nation, with a streaming live webcast that attracts an international audience each month. The Kauffman Foundation has been advancing entrepreneurship since 1966. Google Fiber is powering new startups left and right.

Just today, Techweek Kansas City kicked off. KC is only the sixth city in the nation to host a Techweek! There’s a staggering array of events to attend and people to meet. We’ll be rushing around all week hitting the scene. We’re excited to support Techweek as a City Partner. Use our promo code to get 15% off tickets: AC7WZVUKC. For a full schedule, visit:

In just a few short weeks, we’re excited to kick off a weekend of innovation with Kansas City Community College. The college is hosting its annual Innovation Summit on October 2nd, the start of the Make48 challenge. Make48 Director Stephen Key will be judging the Perfect Pitch competition. Pitch your “why didn’t I think of that” idea in front of venture capitalists, investors, other entrepreneurs, and business leaders for the chance to win cash! The registration has been extended until tomorrow. For more, visit:

These days, our heads are practically spinning from all of the energy pulsing around tech, entrepreneurship, and innovation in KC. We’re proud that Make48 sets itself apart by emphasizing the production of physical consumer products. We want to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States.

But the reality is, the Make48 competition wouldn’t even be possible without tech.

Prototyping technologies have become refined and accessible—just take a look at Maker Studio in Union Station. The Internet allows teams to study the marketplace in a fraction of the amount of time. Competitors are able to film high-quality video on their phones and edit it in top-notch speed for their pitches! Tech is the backbone of our event.

Cheers to a great month ahead, KC.
