Can they build it in 48 hours? Fastenal will throw a challenge down the gauntlet, challenging Minnesota high school teams at the Winona-Make48 competition. Watch as these young innovators from Winona and the surrounding region race against the clock to create solutions for Safety in Manufacturing. Meet the seven teams and witness their ingenuity May 2-4th at Minnesota State College Southeast.
Ramhawks - Winona Senior High School
With a blend of seasoned robotics members and fresh talent, the Ramhawks are ready to bring creative problem-solving and interdisciplinary skills to learn and innovate. Miller Ingenuity is sponsoring the Ramhawks.
William Braun -The advisor for the robotic team, William will guide the team of emerging robotics enthusiasts, including a Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior team member.
Eben Jackson - Ethan, a Freshman on Winona robotics team 3090, is eager to apply his robotics experience to the Make48 challenge.
David Yearous - David is a Junior with two years of robotics experience. He’s worked on many different projects for his team, including woodworking and plasma cutting from FRC Team 3090.
Rachel Spartz - A first-year robotics member, Rachel is looking to expand her knowledge in mechanical engineering.
DIY or DIE - Cotter High School
A diverse team with a strong emphasis on creativity and cross-disciplinary collaboration. They are proudly supported by the thermoplastic Winona company, RTP.
Eric Paulsen - Eric is a teacher, maker, and tinkerer who is passionate about hands-on learning and loves to make things and break things just to figure out how they work. Whether it’s in the classroom or the Cotter TEAMS Lab, Eric enjoys building, experimenting, and finding creative solutions to challenges.
Eric Geng - An international student from China, Eric combines a love for science and computer science with a passion for tennis and Rubik's Cubes. He’s really looking forward to this event!
Leah Van Lin - Is a creative thinker who loves exploring diverse ideas. Leah is passionate about photography, music, movies, art, and tennis - all of which drive her imagination and drive to innovate. She enjoys bringing energy and fresh perspectives to any team or challenge.
Cooper Christopherson - Is an extroverted builder and designer with a love for people. He loves a variety of activities, including video games, golf, bowling, and building and designing ideas.
Red Hawks 27 - Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (G-E-T) High School
A team that blends technical skills with artistic talents, particularly in music. Behrens Manufacturing proudly supports the Red Hawks.
Team Bio: The Red Hawks 27 is a diverse group of sophomores from the small Wisconsin high school of G-E-T. Although diverse, they come together with two very common interests: SkillsUSA and music. The coach Brandon Bork built his own electric guitar, Charles Komperud, an engineer, plays tuba, Braydan Van Vredee, a marketer, plays trumpet along with their advertiser Madeline Ruud. The Red Hawks team members are all at a variety of skill levels when it comes to the shop and music, but they all join together to make some amazing things.
The Innovator's Forge - Cotter High School
A team that bridges the gap between technical engineering and creative digital arts. Winona companies, Schwab Construction and Biesanz Stone Co., will be cheering on The Innovator’s Forge.
Spencer Hodge - Spencer is the art teacher at Cotter High School. He’s excited to put their team's experience with art, design and engineering, to make a product that could suit the world!
Ethan Theobald - An engineering student at Cotter Schools, Ethan enjoys technical things like mechatronics, coding, and game design. He also likes to build solutions.
Sebastian Pelaez - A proud Minnesotan, Sebastian is a 15-year-old whose interests include drawing, digital art, Photoshop, video games, and going on walks.
LeYan Thean - “Little me loved to draw, and that has only continued to grow as I've become older.” The challenges of high school brought new experiences to LeYan, and she discovered there was even more to her interests. LeYan is competitive not just in art but extemporaneous speaking and creative innovations in engineering studies.
Wingers - Red Wing High School
A dedicated team of 9th and 10th grade students eager to expand their engineering and robotics knowledge. The American family-owned company, Watlow is sponsoring the Wingers.
Bentley Ricks - A high school student focused on gaining experience, leveling up his college application, and improving for future competitions.
Gavin Plath - Part of a team with a solid foundation in robotics and engineering.
Seth Ziemer - Enjoys doing Martial arts, playing sports, and has a passion for building.
Tristan Wilczynska - Passionate about robotics and engineering, Tristan is interning at an AI company and leading AI initiatives in school. He’s hoping to grow his engineering abilities at this event and problem-solve with his team.
We Fail Fast Too - Saint Thomas Academy
A team with a history of tackling complex STEM challenges, ready to apply their experience to the Make48 competition.
Mark Westlake - Mark is returning with experience from a 2022 Make48 competition.
Cory, Colin, and Leo are proud to be on this team with their favorite STEM teacher! They mostly work on experimental vehicles but also do a variety of projects from NASA Hunch to Xcel energy games. They are excited to participate in this year's Make48!

Pirates of the Mississippi - Cochrane-Fountain City High School
The Pirates of the Mississippi are a cohesive team that leverages diverse individual skills and collaborates effectively with strong teamwork.
John Peterson - John is a 43 year-old father of four that teaches Technology Education for the Cochrane-Fountain City School District. He, his wife Jodi and children live in Arcadia, where they like to play outdoors and go camping in the summer. His hobbies include mechanics, camping, and just having family fun.
Joette Wolfe - Joette is excited to work with a well-knitted group of individuals who all have various successes in their own fields. She’s excited to contribute to the team.
Nathan Stoppelmoor - Describing their team as very smart overall, Nathan also knows that they will work together great, possessing the necessary skills to compete successfully in this competition.
Steve Meyer - A thinker and a doer, Steve knows that their team works well together and with great teamwork skills.
