Kansas City, MO, USA, May 9, 2024 - Exciting news is buzzing in the heart of Milwaukee. Makers, inventors, and entrepreneurs are getting ready for the much-anticipated return of Make48. Hosted at the prestigious We Energies STEM Center at Milwaukee School of Engineering, this thrilling event marks Make48’s second venture into historical Milwaukee.
From September 20-22, the MSOE Campus in Milwaukee, WI, will transform into a hotbed of innovation and excitement. Imagine being handed a design criteria and given just 48 hours to transform it into a tangible prototype. That's the challenge awaiting the brilliant minds of high school students from the Milwaukee area.
“Make48 fosters innovation and collaboration while showcasing the power of creativity and hands-on problem solving,” said Dr. John Walz, MSOE president. “These are all necessary skills for success in science, technology, engineering, math, and life! The entire MSOE community is excited to welcome Make48 and all of the creative young competitors to campus.”
The Challenge Awaits
The STEM Center, known for creating opportunities for all students to explore the possibilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, is the perfect backdrop for this dynamic event. Eight competing teams will create a solution to a challenge set forth by MSOE. The specifics of this challenge will remain under wraps until the event kicks off on Friday, September 20th.
The weekend will be a whirlwind of brainstorming, designing, and building as they race against the clock to bring their visions to life. And the best part? The winning team walks away with a grand prize of $2,000 and will move on to represent MSOE at Nationals this November in Kansas City, Missouri.
“Our STEM Center aims to provide every student with access to meaningful and exciting STEM opportunities,” said Elizabeth Taylor, director of the We Energies STEM Center at MSOE. “Make48 enables every student to participate and have their ideas come to life regardless of their level of experience, exposure or skill. We are so excited to see what these students come up with!”
Make48 is more than just a competition; it's a playground for creativity and ingenuity. With a crew of mentors, volunteers, and the much beloved ‘Tool Techs’ who can build almost anything, teams will be on the same level playing field, giving anyone with a creative mindset a chance to compete. As the teams showcase their creations to a panel of judges, their ingenuity will be captured for all the world to see. Filmed for a TV documentary airing on This Old House Makers Channel on Roku, their innovations will inspire countless others to chase their own dreams of invention.

About Make48:
Make48 is a nationwide invention-competition docuseries, distributed and aired in partnership with This Old House Makers Channel (Roku), that gives teams a challenge at the start of a two-day event. With just 48 hours, teams must create a prototype, promotional video, sales sheet, and finally present their idea to a panel of judges. The teams have access to a makerspace and numerous Tool Techs (that can make almost anything), patent attorneys, marketing experts, and more. This format allows everyone to have a level playing field and the chance to win, with no prior technical knowledge necessary.
