Meet the teams competing at Make48 Nationals!
From Wichita, Madison, Indianapolis and Hartford, these brilliant teams had the top winning ideas from their challenge and will compete from March 25 - 27 at GoCreate in Wichita, Kansas.
The teams will be joined by our “secret sauce,” a team of tool techs who will be fabricating the teams’ prototypes using a variety of tools and technologies, from 3D printers to welders, to textiles and woodworking. Tool techs will come from the Maker community, volunteers and employees from ShopBot, Onshape, Magswitch, Airgas, Evans IP Law, the Law Office of Mark Brown and our own Make48 team.
Make48’s docuseries, filmed for PBS, challenges individuals of all ages, experiences and backgrounds to take an idea from conception to physical prototype, using an array of tools in a 48-hour period. Meet the teams from around the country competing this spring for a chance to take home the grand prize of $10k!
Wichita
Koch Industries called the challenge in June of 2021. The challenge theme was Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship: Doing More with Less with Water Conservation. The winners from GoCreate were Felipe and Rafael from team Veni, Vidi, Vici with the Drain N' Grain. Runners up were Travis, Jagger, Bill, and Quentin with team SuperVader, with their water reclamation system, Guttermouth.

Madison
Challenge Sponsor Midwest Prototyping created the “Outdoor Play” design challenge. The creativity was electric inside The Bodgery, and the first place team who will represent Madison is The Free Wheelers. Ben, Zack, Nicole, and Claude reinvented a new yard game called BocceBall. Johnny, Mitchell, Keegan and Eric from the Stainless Steel Badgers team placed third with a creative outdoor game, Peel It In.

Indianapolis
Eli Lilly and Company served as the challenge sponsor at Machyne Makerspace. Indiana teams had to create a better pill box or IV medical stand for the challenge theme of Empowering Health @ Home. The first place winning team representing the Hoosier State was The Mallorys. Drew, Gregg, Amanda and Andy developed Spring, a functional plant holder/IV medical stand. TheGrindery.org will also represent Indianapolis at Nationals. Dr. Ivan Hicks, Samuel, Miles and Anya created the "Medicane", an innovative cane with additional IV stand features.

Hartford
Stanley Black & Decker created the final challenge theme “Outdoor Lifestyle.” Teams had to create a prototype at MakerspaceCT in one of these categories: ultimate outdoor audio, back patio entertainment, solar home solutions or back patio lighting. Magic Make went home with the first place trophy. Victoria, Constance, Phoebe and Alexander won with their product Eclipse 360. The ZipPit, a portable fire pit, came in second. The product was created by My Three Sons, father Tim and his sons Dan, Ron and Jeff.

Make48 is a nationwide, invention-competition docuseries that gives teams a challenge at the start of a two day event. With just 48 hours, teams must create a prototype, promotional video and sales sheet and present their idea to a panel of judges. The teams have access to a Makerspace and numerous Tool Techs that can make almost anything, thus allowing everyone to have a level playing field and the chance to win. Everyday people will discover what is possible at this unique competition.
