Menomonie, WI – [April 24, 2025] – The intense Make48 competition hosted at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, is coming to your screen. Now, you can witness the ingenuity firsthand as these episodes premiere on the This Old House Makers Channel (Roku) on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Sponsored by Derrick Building Solutions, this construction challenge brought together eight teams, each uniquely composed of two talented local SkillsUSA high school students and two dedicated UW-Stout students. Tasked with developing groundbreaking solutions for common construction hazards, these teams pushed their creative boundaries with remarkable results.

Witness the power of partnership as these teams leveraged UW-Stout’s cutting-edge fabrication facilities and the expertise of skilled technicians to transform ideas into tangible prototypes. The participating high schools were Case (Racine), Beloit Memorial, Menomonie (two teams), Chippewa Falls, Amery, Eau Claire North, and Rice Lake.
Crucially, each team also benefited from the mentorship and resources of a local business sponsor, further enriching their experience. The success of this event was a testament to the generous support of numerous Wisconsin companies, brands, and organizations, including Andersen Windows, Presto, Xcel Energies, 3M, OEM, Donald Kirby, Rice Lake Weighing Systems, Workforce Development, TTM, GMDC, WCMP, Momentum West, Dunn Co. Make48 is a nationwide invention competition docuseries that gives teams a challenge at the start of a three-day event. With just 48 hours, teams must create a prototype, promotional video, and sales sheet, and present their idea to a panel of judges. The teams have access to a makerspace and numerous Tool Techs that can make almost anything, patent attorneys, marketing experts, and more. This format allows everyone to have a level playing field and the chance to win, with no prior technical knowledge necessary.
